How to control app sort order of finder in OS X Lion
Has a client who has done something that has affected the order of icons in the Finder. Does not matter what view mode.
For example, the "Utilities" folder of applications is halfway down the list! If I alter the sort order for any, remains. I put it back to "name" stands in the middle!

I assume you are viewing the contents of the Applications folder in List view.
I can reproduce the trouble you describe by setting arrangements in the View menu to "None", then click the Date column header modification / button

Consider the valuation of the head of the column / buttons - the highlight indicates that the criteria used for the class.
And there is a small triangle at the end of the highlighted button - this indicates that the new facility in ascending or descending order. That can be reversed by simply clicking on this button again.
