Yahoo! Mash: a service killed in the bud

>> Saturday 25 June 2011

Barely one year after launching the beta Mash, Yahoo! closes his ex-new community service. Given the failure of Yahoo! 360 and the growing success of precursors such as Myspace, Yahoo! Mash had to be a response weight by offering users a personalized profile that can decorate various modules, similar to Facebook applications. Today, testers invited to the beta received an email teaching them that Mash will close on September 29 next.

On 16 October 2007, Jerry Yang, CEO of Yahoo! announced that the company wanted to migrate all users of Yahoo! 360 on "a more comprehensive user profile." This time, the details of the closure were published in the FAQ site.

Yahoo does not propose any tool transfer to another platform blog or another social network. In fact, the only team invites you to "copy the content you want to save for the paste on a document external."

Unless the company is still considered changing strategy, it could be that Yahoo! Mash has been a service test to determine its possible potential and measure its impact facing similar service as Facebook. In addition, Yahoo! introduced a number of other networks such as Yahoo! Kickstart that attacks the market Linkedin targeting a professional audience and, more recently, the community of Eagle Fire, a sort of Twitter specializes in geolocation.
