calculation of date, month and year using excel
Hi, I am using Microsoft office Excel 2007 and i am using it with windows 7 system. I am preparing a work sheet for an institution as a part of my college assignment. I am having no idea on how to make calculations with the dates while working on Microsoft Excel. Is there any specific formula in excel to calculate total number of months and year between the two dates. Can anyone help me with the calculations. If there are any specific formula then please suggest me.

To calculate number of days between the two dates is simple. Here are the simple steps with which you can calculate the days between the two dates. For example you want to calculate between two dates say 4 Jan 2011 to 6 April 2011.lets assume cell A1 contains 4/1/2011 and cell A2 contains 6/4/2011.then in cell A3 you can simply write A2-A1.the result that appear in the cell A3 might surprise you but don’t consider it as a wrong result. Go to format menu and choose “cells”,click on the “number” tab and select “general” in the category list. Then you get the actual answer.

You can calculate date, month as well as year in Microsoft Excel. Calculation of days is simple but calculating number of month and year is little bit complex but still you will find it easier. In Microsoft Excel there is a function called DATEDIF. The syntax for this function is DATEDIF(startdate, enddate,”interval”)and the formula to calculate number of months between two dates is DATEDIF(A1,A2,”m”).in the same way when you want to calculate number of years then the formula would be DATEDIF(A1,A2”y”)

You can calculate the number of months and years using the formula DATEDIF(A1,A2,”m”) for months and DATEDIF(A1,A2”y”) for years. Assume that you want to calculate the number of months between 4 Jan 2011 to 6 April 2011.then in the function fx type DATEDIF(A1,A2,”m”).in the cell A1 enter 4/1/2011 and in cell A2 enter 6/4/2011.you will get the result in cell A3.Similarly you have to calculate for the year.
