Office Install Fails - Proof.cab not found
Given:
Fresh install Windows XP Pro with SP3
Office 2007 Pro

Symptom:
Office 2007 Pro Install Error Message:
"Setup cannot find Proofing.en-us\Proof.es\Proof.cab"

When I go to the specific directory and click on it and retry I get the
error message "Invalid location". If I retry from a parent directory (IE:
\Proofing.en-us) I get the same "Invalid location" message.

I can see the appropriate files on the CD. Trying something else I attempted
to copy the parent directory (Proofing.en-us) and all contents to the C:
drive. I was then going to try to specify that as the place to look for the
files. All files copied except for \Proof.es\Proof.cab which gave a CRC error.

I have not had a problem when I installed Office 2007 in the past.

Follow the below steps:

1. If the installer is popping up any error, just ignore it and continue the process. it is better if you don’t close or cancel the install.
2. Search “proof.msi” in your Windows. Select the “Search system folders” option if you are sure where you can find that file.
3. In the search result, you can notice "proof.msi” present in the Windows temporary folder directory.
4. Copy the path of the location where you found the file.
5. Return back to the installer and paste the location of the file in the text feild of the error message where it is asking for entering the location of the file.
6. Delete the “proofing.en-us\proof.en\proof.msi” part the location and hit the enter key.
