Unable to open physical disk in VMware workstation 8
I recently upgraded to 8.0 VMware Workstation 6.5.A VM that was previously able to access the physical disks and it does not. Trying to simplify debugging, I created a virtual machine rev8.0, installing Ubuntu 11.04 + virtual disk updates applied. Boots successfully. Added a physical disk in the virtual machine configuration successfully. WS8 appears as hard drive. Reason: The physical disk is already in use”
Do I have to configure VM 8 0 special permits to allow access to physical disk? I am a user "admin" when used (and during installation) WAS. Any suggestions? I tried to gather information that enables full debugging, but the log section was not significantly different. It would be nice to see some indication in the record on the type of error caused the open to fail (perhaps a Windows equivalent of Error?).

Work is expected, if virtual machine is running as an administrator should have no problems with XP-host

Re: Unable to open physical disk in VMware workstation 8
I'm running Norton Antivirus. Temporarily disable "antivirus Auto Protect" does not help. My account is a "computer administrator, password protected," according to Control Panel / User Accounts. I do not recognize any.
The disk has neither a letter nor a path. Note that the system was little success with VMware Workstation 6.5.
